Meet Coach Alvarado

Coach Alvarado is a Communication Arts teacher at Winnetonka. 

 She has coached Tonka Cheer for 5 years (8 years total coaching cheer) 

and took the squad to state 5 years in a row, placing the last 2 years.

• Coach Alvarado LOVES Freddy's.  She orders a double cheeseburger with ketchup, mustard, and tomato ONLY, along with fries and a Coke.  "So Yummy"!

• She has a love for books, so picking a favorite one was a tough question.  Coach Alvarado chose several of her favorite series.  I bet you have read some of them:  Harry Potter Series, Hunger Games Series, Songs of Ice, and Fire Series.  Great Summer Reads!

• If you pull up to Coach Alvarado's car, you may hear her jamming to "We Are Young" by Fun or "For the Longest Time" by Billy Joel.

• Why does Coach Alvarado coach cheer? --I love CHEER!!!!I have always wanted to be a cheer coach because I want to positively influence students and I want kids to LOVE CHEER like I do.  I want to encourage and cultivate school spirit! I love CHEER!!!!!

• Coach Alvarado was a cheerleader herself.  She cheered all through her high school years!

• She has many WISHES for this years squad: 1) NO DRAMA, Lots of HAPPINESS, 2) Progress to improve our skills and techniques, and 3) to win 1st at state competition

• Coach Alvarado believes "everything happens for a reason".  "God, has a plan", and she likes the Ralph Waldo Emerson quote, "what lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters, to what lies with in us". 

• Coach Alvarado would use her Super Hero Powers to travel the world, and discipline her students.  She would also use her powers just for fun!  The thought of having powers is FUN!

Meet Coach Jackson

• Coach Jackson loves the color purple.  It has been her favorite color since she was little.

• She loves to eat at El Sombrero-the tostado platter, chips and salsa are her favorite.

• She wanted to coach cheer this season because she wants to show the team that we can all work together and accomplish anything that we put our minds to.  She said, "I want the team to also know that they are school ambassadors and they are people that the students look up to".

• Coach Jackson cheered for 2 years in high school for wrestling and soccer teams.  She said that they did cheer a little differently, then they do now.   The groups she cheered with didn't do stunts.  Coach Jackson dance, baton twirled, and was part of the drill team for 18 years.  She competed in Notre Dame every year from age 6-18 years old.

• Her wish for this year's squad- 1st Place at State.

Coach Wolf is the newest member of Winnetonka Cheer.

• Was Coach Wolf a cheerleader?  YES, 3 years and she was a base.

Selling Suckers

to Help Purchase New Uniforms for Varsity

This week our cheerleaders have each received 30 suckers to sell.  Each sucker cost $1.00.  We are asking that every cheerleader sell 30 suckers.  We have the potential of making $1,350 towards purchasing new uniforms if everyone does their part! The cheerleaders have begged for new uniforms, this is their chance to help!

LOCK-IN at Winnetonka High School

On Thursday, May 31,2012 we are hoping to host a Cheer Lock-In for all Winnetonka Cheerleaders.  WE DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION FOR THIS LOCK-IN YET.  We felt this would be a great way for the new squad to bond before going away to camp together.  Our Parent Group, will provide pizza's for dinner.  We will need donations, more information will be coming out.  Cross your fingers that this event will be approved by the administration. We wanted to give you a heads up for you to save the date on your calendar .We are trying to make this happen!
